PHS To Honor Area Veterans Nov. 9th
Issue Date: November 1, 2018
A Celebrating Our Veterans Program will be held Friday, Nov. 9 at Peshtigo High School, 380 Green Street from 7 to 9 a.m.
Veterans Day falls on Nov. 11 each year to honor and thank all veterans who served the United States in all wars. On Friday, Nov. 9 students at Peshtigo High School will pay tribute to veterans with a special program starting with a free breakfast served by members of the Peshtigo High School Rho-Kappa History Class from 7 to 8 a.m. Volunteer hostesses from Operation United Hearts will conduct special activities for the veterans during the breakfast hour.
A commemoration program will take place at 8 a.m. in the high school gym. Each veteran will receive three free tickets for door prizes consisting of a variety of gifts donated by area businesses and citizens wanting to show their appreciation for veteran's services. Buckets will be available for veterans to put their tickets in with hopes that they will be the lucky winner of that item. Door prize drawings will take place throughout the breakfast hour and winners must be present. Each veteran will also receive two special tickets for a chance to win either a Wood Shark 33cc/2.0 C.I. engine 14" Guard Bar Chain Saw donated by West Shore Tool Service, Peshtigo, or a Cord of Firewood courtesy of Frank's Logging. Those drawings will take place following the commemoration program.
The program will take place at 8:15 a.m. in the gym starting with the National Anthem sung by the Peshtigo High School Choir, directed by Jacob Hickey, Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Peshtigo High School Rho-Kappa History Class student, Jordan Cooper, and a selection of songs reflecting each branch of the military, among other patriotic pieces performed by the Peshtigo High School Band directed by Alex Shuffield. The keynote speaker for the commemoration is Retired Lieutenant Colonel Ellis Langjahr.
We like to think that "Only in Peshtigo" could this outpouring of respect to our veterans be accomplished in such a fun, fulfilling and honorable way. Always take time to "Thank A Veteran."
