Margaret (Chatlosh) "Midge" Shaffer, 93, of Marinette, passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2018 of natural causes at Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette.
Born Aug. 6, 1925 in Menominee, Mi., to Joseph and Mary (Kuknyo) Chatlosh, she grew up on the family farm in the Palestine area of Stephenson, Mi. with her brothers Johnny, Louie, Al and Joe and sisters Liz, Irene and Toots, all of whom preceded her in death.
At age 17, she was the first in her family to graduate from high school. She served during World War II in the United States Navy as a W.A.V.E. While in the Navy, she met her first husband, Bradford "Kent" Shaffer, who became a career Naval Officer and he preceded her in death. Together they lived a wonderful life with their four children.
With her love of travel and driving, she worked as a Private Chauffeur in San Diego, Ca. for a professor where she met her second husband, Raymond Lucien Bernier, the architect designing her employer's home. They spent a lifetime building beautiful homes, traveling and being adventurous and he also preceded her in death.
She enjoyed hiking, golfing, bowling, crossword puzzles and being outside, especially by the water, but her favorites were dancing, reading and traveling.
She is survived by a son, James Kent Shaffer; three daughters, Karen Sue (Mike) Reilly, Lori (Bill) Paitl, and Robyn Shaffer; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home, 610 Marinette Avenue, Marinette from 1 p.m. until time of the Memorial Service at 2 p.m.
