Born Dec. 25, 1921 in the Town of How in Oconto County, she was the youngest child of Alvin and Henrietta (Yakel) Schuettpelz. She married Edward John Nelson on June 20, 1943 and they were together for 75 years until his passing on July 7, 2018.
A loving wife, mother and homemaker, she raised eight children and two foster children. An active member of her church, she was also active with the ARC and at Bethesda. In 1991, the family was named the International Special Olympics Family of the Year. She was a hard worker and helped anyone in need.
Surviving are five sons, Jon (Shirley), Paul (Susie), David (Nancy), Joel and Tim; a brother, Marion "Bud" Schuettpelz; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by four children, Steven, Mark (Jan), Gail and Beth, who died in infancy.
Family and friends may gather at Faith Lutheran Church in Watertown on Thursday, Nov. 8 from 2 p.m. until time of the funeral services at 4 p.m. at with Rev. Seth Hoeppner officiating. Another gathering of family and friends will be held at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Suring on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 11 a.m. until time of the funeral service on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 at 1 p.m. Rev. Seth Hoeppner and Rev. Michael Paholke will officiate with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Suring. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown and Gruetzmacher Funeral Home of Suring are assisting the family with arrangements.
