Florence L. Brofka, 94, of Marinette, passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2018 at Rennes Health Care Center-East.
Born Nov. 22, 1923 in Menominee, Mi., to the late William and Sena (Christiansen) Hendrickson, she was the youngest of eight girls. At a young age, she was a waitress with her sister, Irene, at Charlie Engler's Café.
In 1943 she visited her sister, Mae and met John Brofka in Lugerville and they married on Oct. 30, 1943. In 1950 they moved to Marinette and had six children. She worked at Davis's Café for many years and then with her friend, Gladys, in her catering business. She also worked at North Shore Golf Course as a cook with her sister Margaret, friend Gladys, daughter, Mary and niece, Pam. Later she was a cook at the VFW in Menominee with her nieces, Janise and Carole and good friend, Frenchy until retirement.
A lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 1887, she traveled across the United States to conventions. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church for over 65 years and was on the Altar Guild and coffee hour committee.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, league bowling, going to the casino, watching Jeopardy and her soap operas.
She is survived by six children, John Jr. (Debbie), Bill (Cathy), Nancy Brofka, Sharon Drong, Mary E. Fournier and Jeff (Kathy); 11 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John on Oct 9, 1997; seven sisters, Mae, Myrtle, Ellen, Irene, Doris, Margaret and Clara; a son-in-law, Albert and a grandson, Timothy.
Friends may call at Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home in Marinette on Friday, Nov. 9 from 2 p.m. until time of services at 5 p.m. Rev. Glenn Kanestrom will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee.
