Richard "Dick" W. Alfredson Sr., 87, passed away Friday, Nov. 2, 2018 at home surrounded by his family.
Born Feb. 10, 1931, to the late Agnar and Bertha (Rasmussen) Alfredson, he attended Menominee Public Schools and graduated in 1949. He was on the varsity football team and was class officer. He earned a BS in Mathematics and Physics at Carroll College where he also played football as a guard and linebacker. Upon graduation in 1953, he served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant stationed in Japan.
After service he worked in the family business, Alfredson Brothers Construction Company, where he became president of the company and retired two months ago. On Dec. 26, 1963, he married Joan Lauerman at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Marinette and they had six children who took turns caring for him day and night for the past two weeks.
Dick enjoyed hunting, golfing, attending Packer games, picking vegetables and was an avid bridge player, but especially liked spending time at his camp at Cedar River and skiing at Indianhead Mountain with his family. He was a member of the Elks Club.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan; four sons, Dick Jr. and John, both of Menominee, Thomas (Jennifer) and Stefan (Joanna), both of Muskego and two daughters, Kristin (Glenn) Sartorelli and Maren (Brent) Nerat, both of Menominee; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Zeitler and Betty Loomis, both of Marinette and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Soren and Agnar.
Visitation was held at Thielen Funeral Home in Marinette on Sunday, Nov. 4 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Visitation continued at Bethel Lutheran Church on Monday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. Rev. Scott Ehle officiated with burial in Riverside Cemetery in Menonminee.
