Walter "Wally" Simonson, 82, of Lena, passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2018.
Born Feb. 25, 1936 in Durand, to the late Russel and Lila (McQuiston) Simonson, he was raised in Colfax and joined the United States Marine Core in 1954 until 1959 and served in the Korean War. He returned to Wisconsin and worked in Milwaukee at AMC Car Company and Rexnord Corporation. While there, he met his late wife, Germaine (Janik) Simonson and they were married for 22 years.
The family moved to Lena in 1978 where they owned and operated The Barn Tavern. He also drove school bus for the Lena School District for over 30 years until retiring.
He loved hunting and fishing, had a passion for camping, reading books and making wine and was a member of the Lena American Legion and St. Anne Church in Lena.
He is survived by two sons, Craig (Michelle) Simonson and Brian (Lora) Simonson, both of Lena; three grandchildren; his significant other, Marlene Peetz and her family; two brothers, Dale and Lee Kurschner and three sisters, Grace Hacker, Marie Young and Patricia Corbin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Germaine; three sisters, Margaret Anne Simonson, Gladys Ricardo and Shirley Booker and a brother, Allen Simonson.
Family will greet relatives and friends at St. Anne Catholic Church in Lena on Friday, Nov. 30 from 4 p.m. until time of a Wake Service at 7 p.m., given by Deacon Peter Gard. Visitation will continue at the Church on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m., with Fr. Felix Abano officiating. Rhodes Charapata Funeral Home of Lena is assisting the family with arrangements.
