Dennis Joseph Collard, 94, of Menominee, Mi., passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 9, 2018 at Bay Area Medical Center.
Born June 3, 1924, to the late Henry and Theresa (Gorman) Collard, he attended Menominee High School where he met his future wife, June (Collins) and they married on Aug. 7, 1945 at St. Ann's Church in Menominee. He served in the United States Army on the front lines in Germany and France during World War II.
After the war, they settled in Menominee where they raised four children. He worked different jobs doing house painting and repairs until he started at Menominee Paper Mill as tour boss until being promoted to Assistant Superintendent, retiring after over 39 years.
He enjoyed hunting at his camp, fishing and camping with family. After retirement, they traveled around the United States until purchasing a home in Largo, Fla., where they spent their winters for 15 years.
A brave, wise man and hard worker, he was always there to help his children and friends and will be missed by many.
He is survived by four children, Karen (John) Orland, Craig (Cindy) Collard, Curt (Gail) Collard and Dan Collard; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June; a granddaughter, Alexis; four sisters, Rey, Dorothy, Lorraine and Margret and a brother, Henry.
Visitation will take place at Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home in Marinette on Thursday, Dec. 13 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a Vigil Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m., with Fr. Mark McQuesten presiding. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Resurrection Catholic Church in Menominee on Friday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. Fr. Mark McQuesten will preside with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
