Joan Helen (Graby) Carter, 83, of Merritt Island, Fla., formerly of Marinette, passed away
Friday, Nov. 30, 2018.
Born June 10, 1935 in Marinette, to Albert and Beatrice Graby, she grew up in Northern Wisconsin on the family farm which was also the home of "Graby's Supper Club," a popular restaurant. She then attended Stephens College in Missouri and married Dr. James E. Carter and settled in Merritt Island, Fla., to raise her six children.
She enjoyed gourmet cooking, traveling and golfing with her husband, but her passion was reading. She often quoted Thomas Jefferson saying "I cannot live without books." "
She is survived by six children, Virginia Barton, Jackie Smith (Steve), James (Patty), John, Jody and Joseph (Alexandra) and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James and a granddaughter, Sara Barton.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, at Beckman Williamson Funeral Home, 5400 Village Drive, Viera, Fla. from 4 p.m. until time of a Celebration of Life at 5:30 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1850 Lee Rd. Suite 111, Winter Park, Fla., 32789.
