Town Athelstane Board Up Election Workers Pay

Issue Date: December 26, 2018

Athelstane-Chairman Kelly Barnes at the Athelstane Town Board meeting Dec. 11 mentioned that someone asked the board to consider putting Public Comment after each business item on the agenda. Barnes said he would inform the public that if they had comments on any agenda item it should be done in Public Comment at the beginning of the meeting.

Matthew Harris questioned the ISO rating for the Town. He was informed by the Fire Chief Scott Durian that it would take effect on Jan. 1. Harris also mentioned that Ordinance #30: Broadband Forward! Community Ordinance was not on the website yet. He also asked if it was possible to have the agendas and minutes of the board meetings posted.

Tricia Greben, Marinette County Supervisor, congratulated the town for becoming a Broadband Forward community. The town now needs a provider to apply for a grant. There is a CAP 2 federal fund and CenturyLink already has $3.8 million for Marinette County for this year. If anyone has any events happening, they can be put on the website at no charge. Starting in January, Marinette County is offering free radon test kits that can be picked up in Niagara or Marinette. The County is looking for volunteers for programs such as the elderly services, etc.

Barnes reminded everyone that ATV/UTV routes on county trunk highways are closed from Dec. 1st thru March 31st.

The minutes and bills were accepted and approved.

Barnes also announced that Deputy Clerk Patti Wickesberg applied for a grant of $57,100 through the DNR for recycling and the town was accepted for all of it or a portion.

Barnes added no check was received from the insurance company for the recent fire. He talked to the carrier and was told that a check for $22,600 was in the mail.

Durian in the fire department report said they had two meetings, one training, and one Co2 call for a faulty detector. For the Planning Commission he said they met on Dec. 4 with five members to reviewe the ordinances.

Town Treasurer Greg Reinhardt noted there was $18,010.73 in checking, $139,005.38 General Money Market, $1,465.99 Tax Money Market, $118,175.39 Certificate of Deposit for a $276,657.49 total.

Kelly LaCount said they are getting the shop back in order after the fire and still are waiting for delivery of the new dump truck. There are three trucks available for snow plowing. If anyone needs sand for sidewalks or driveways, they may go to the town shed with a shovel and bucket and take sand.

The clerk will be paidfor graves marked since the fee was adopted last April 10. Karen Plosczynski, Jill LaCount and Connie Wallace are additional election workers for the period ending Dec. 31, 2019. Wages for the election workers will go up from $8.50/hr. to $10/hr. and the Deputy Clerk wages will increase one dollar per hour from $11 to $12.

All officers were present for roll call along with 16 from the public. The agenda was approved as slated.
