Girls Baksetball Heats Up As Second Round Progresses

Win Over Marinette
Peshtigo's strong defense led it to a 41-39 win over Marinette on Friday.
Peshtigo struggled to score in the first half with just 14 points, but they got enough to top the Marines.
Freshman Lianna Baxter again led the way for Peshtigo, with 20 points and a couple in clutch moments down the stretch. Gabby Perry scored 13 as well to provide a solid second scoring option for the Bulldogs. Allison Dudka had four and Sidney Gullicksen and Grace Wickman each put in a second-half bucket.
Marinette's Katelyn Kitzinger had 20 for Marinette, but the Bulldogs locked down the rest of the Marinette squad.
Loss to O. Falls
Marinette fell 44-35 on the hardwood to Oconto Falls, with Kari Albrecht leading the way for Oconto Falls in the North Eastern Conference showdown.
She had a game-high 17 as Falls held Marinette to 10 points in the first half to head into the break up 21-10. Marinette was much-improved in the second half, but Falls kept its offense going to get the win.
Mady Sims led Marinette with 14 points, while Katelyn Kitzinger had eight and Abby Wingender matched that.
Freezes Out Coleman
The Three Lakes girls did everything they needed to do right Friday night when they blasted the Cougars 65-43.
Three Lakes was led by Sydney Wrvey with a game high 25 points. Taylor Kolling posted 19 points while Holle Gruszynski posted eight points.
Coleman's Cameron Compe piled up 12 points while Hailey Zimmer added on nine. Hadelyn Hoida and Kailey Klimek scored six points each.
Gillett Has Good
The Menominee Maroons defeated Gillett 71-62 to win the Gillett holiday tournament over the weekend.
In the championship game, Menominee led 35-32 going into the halftime break, holding on for the win and overcoming performances of over 20 points from two Gillett scorers.
Aubrey DeBauch scored 27 and Karissa Schaal had 20, but Menominee's even scoring attack and 25 from Emma Anderson helped get the win.
Sarah and Erin Barrette had 10 apiece and both Emma Hofer and Jenna Nolde scored nine.
Menominee easily handled Marion in a 64-29 win earlier in the tournament, with Anderson scoring 13 and Sarah Barrette adding eight.
Oconto also beat Marion in the tournament with Mara Allan scoring a game-high 21, Jenna Hornblad scoring 12 and Abree Bucheger scoring eight.
Oconto fell to Gillett on Thursday to end up in the consolation bracket with Marion.
