Mary A. Menard Issue Date: January 23, 2019
Mary Ann (Konop) Menard, 76, of Marinette passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2019 at Bay Area Medical Center.
Born Sept. 12, 1942, to the late Joseph and Mildred (Sloup) Konop in Lena, she graduated from Oconto Falls High School in 1960 and received a teaching certificate from Marinette Teachers College. She later graduated from Northern Michigan University with a BS in Education and did Post Graduate work at Northern Michigan, Cardinal Stritch, Virteribo, and UCLA.
She taught for 44 years at St. Pius X in Appleton, Menominee Catholic Central, Saint Anthony, Holy Family Marinette and St. Thomas Aquinas Marinette from where she retired in 2007. She was recognized many times for her teaching in the Green Bay Diocese.
On June 27, 1964, she married Wayne E. Menard at St. Wenceslas Church in Klondike and he preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 2007. A member of Holy Family Parish, she also belonged to the Altar Society, where she held President and Vice President, was a former Jaycettes as President, Vice President, and Treasurer, Delta Cappa Gamma and Youth for Understand High School Program Director for the North East WI Chapter for eight years.
She loved traveling to South East Asia to visit all the Mercado relatives and going all over with her husband to visit. She enjoyed camping, "Up North" at Town Corner Lake, sewing, knitting, reading historical fiction, working in her flowers, decorating for all the holidays, especially her front window, and time with special friends once a month.
She is survived by five sons, Basil (Mary) Mercado of Grafton, Beck Mercado of Daly City, Ca., Jose (Kristin) Mercado of Green Bay, Tato (Rosanna) Mercado of Hayward, Ca., and Glenn (Roberta) Monville of Marinette; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Catherine Menard; two sisters-in- law, Marlene Menard and Marilyn Rupert; 10 Godchildren and many nieces; nephews and friends, especially her neighbor, Dianne MacEachern.
In addition to her parents and husband, Wayne, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph (Debbie) Konop, Jr.; in-laws, Woodrow and Lucille Menard; two brothers-in-law, Warren and Woodrow and a sister-in-law, Candace Menard.
Visitation will be held at Thielen Funeral Home in Marinette on Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 4 p.m. until time of the Vigil Prayers and Rosary at 6 p.m., with Rev. Celestine Byekwaso officiating. Visitation will continue on Thursday, Jan. 24 from 9:30 a.m. until time of a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church, St. Joseph Parish on Carney Blvd. Rev. Celestine Byekwaso will officiate and burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
