Joellen Wolcott-McDermid Issue Date: January 23, 2019
Joellen "'Jo'' Wolcott-McDermid was welcomed into heaven by her Lord and Savior on January 18, 2019 following a lengthy illness.
Jo was born on July 19, 1947 in Madison, WI to Robert and Sybel (Dahl) Armstrong. Jo was married to the love of her live, Robert ''Stumper'' Wolcott for 30 years. Bob preceded her in death on September 25, 1999. Thinking her life was pretty much over and much to her surprise she met Leon ''Lee'' McDermid while working for the Red Cross.
Being a dedicated platelet donor, Lee says ''she has been needling me for years''. Jo married her second love on Jan 20, 2011. They accepted each other's families and were very happy together.
Jo and Lee enjoyed traveling to the Western Music Assoc function in Arizona and going to AARP conventions across the country. They also traveled to Mexico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and Jamaica where they were married.
Jo worked as an RN at Green Bay hospitals, Director of Nursing at Odd Fellows Nursing Home and finally retiring after 15 years from the Red Cross as an Apheresis nurse, where she considered many of the donors as family.
Together with Bob they volunteered with Twin Bridge Rescue, Bob as a driver and Jo as an EMT. Jo had also been a licensed taxidermist. Jo loved deer hunting, fishing, knitting, traveling and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jo is survived by her loving and caring husband, Lee; devoted brother and best friend, Curtis (Curt) Armstrong; daughter, Shari (Charlie) Petersen; son, Rob Wolcott; step-son, Martin (Heather) McDermid; sisters-in-law, Peg O'Mara, Kay McDermid, Jan McDermid, Jon (Kelly) McDermid and Sue McDermid; brothers-in-laws; grandchildren, Jessica (Jay) Klemens, Danielle (special friend, Chris Vakselis) Petersen, Shawn (special friend, Nikita Vladik) Wolcott, Heather (Jamie) Nixon, Brandi Wolcott, Allan Wolcott, Andrew Wolcott, Alexandra (Lexi) McDermid and Brook Roe; 7 great-grandchildren and several cousins; nieces; nephews and brother/sisters-in-laws on the Wolcott side.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Wolcott; parents, Robert and Sybel (Dahl) Armstrong; mother-in-law, Mildred Wolcott; brothers-in-law, Raymond Wolcott, Jim Wolcott, Gary McDermid, Glen McDermid, Monte McDermid, Dawg McDermid and Paul McDermid, along with several aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the Spring. Jo will be cremated and her ashes will be mixed with Bob's so they are together forever. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jo's name to the Diabetes Research Foundation. Rhodes Charapata Funeral Home of Crivitz is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jo's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Unity Hospice who cared and comforted both Jo and her family.
