Ruth M. Shufelt, 92, of Oconto, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019 at Woodland Villages in Oconto.
Born Oct. 28, 1926 in the Town of Little River, to Evelyn (Stuart) Whiting and Hector Belongia, after graduation, she worked for the FBI as a Criminal Identification Clerk in Washington D.C. and also worked for the Telephone Company, Reminder and Oconto County as a School Health Aide. She married Robert (Ducky) Shufelt on June 7, 1947 and they lived on the family farm on Springbrook Road in the Town of Little River for many years.
She enjoyed roller skating, tumbling, bowling, dancing, crafts, getting together with the Homemakers Club and jumping rope, winning first prize at the Abrams Opera House. She jogged four miles a day with her friend Roberta and continued after she moved back to the country. An active member in the Alter Rosary Society and St Vincent de Paul, she shopped for nursing home patients and had birthday parties.
As a member of St. Joseph Church, she took communion to those in need and was on the Prayer Chain list taking and giving calls. Her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy and she shared many family gatherings.
She is survived by two daughters, Rita (fiancee, James Basiliere) Anderson and Debra (Jeff) Van Den Bogart; a son, Dennis (Debi) Shufelt; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Delores Tunney, Jean Faulds and Karen (Clifford) Dembroski and a brother, Vernon (Dorothy) Belongia.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Marion (Harold) Shufelt; a brother, Claude Belongia and two brothers-in-law, Ralph Faulds and Thomas Tunney.
Family received relatives and friends at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Oconto on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. until time of a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Gallagher Funeral Home of Oconto assisted the family with arrangements.
