Ralph W. Sorensen, 94, of Menominee, Mi., passed away Wednesday March 20, 2019.
Born Dec. 5, 1924 in Menominee, to the late Soren and Anna (Christensen) Sorensen, in early years he spent many hours at his Uncle Bill's farm making memories that he later enjoyed telling his children and grandchildren. He graduated from Menominee High School in 1942 and then began working at Giddings & Lewis in an entry level position. In his 44 year career, he worked as a pattern maker and retired as plant superintendent.
On June 12, 1948, he married Florence Audit at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marinette and she preceded him in death on April 12, 2012. A lifelong Packers and Tigers fan, he played third base for the Menominee City Baseball Team in the 1940's and enjoyed golfing, woodworking, bowling, gardening and playing pool and beanbag toss with his family.
He is survived by two sons, Carl (Kathy) and Howard (MaryAnn), both of Menominee; a daughter-in-law, Kim Sorensen of Hoover, Ala.; a son-in-law, Greg Slater of Mackinaw City, Mi.; a brother, Donald of Iron Mountain, Mi.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Florence, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret and Louella; a son, William; a daughter, Joann Slater and an infant daughter, Mary.
Visitation will be held at Thielen Funeral Home in Marinette on Saturday, March 30 from 1 p.m. until time of a funeral service at 3 p.m. Rev. Brian Gerber will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery in Marinette.
