Alice "Betty" Johnson, 97, of Marinette passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019 at home.
Born March 31, 1921, to the late Peter and Alice (Bruce) Johnson, she graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in 1938. On March 6, 1943, she married Floyd Johnson in Brooklyn, N.Y. and he preceded her in death on Aug. 21, 2001. At age 44, she enrolled at Marinette Teachers College and received a Bachelor's degree from UW-Oshkosh in 1969. She taught for 20 years and retired from the Marinette School District.
She enjoyed running into former students and their parents. Until recently, she liked going for breakfast with her friend, Mary Dumke and other retired teachers.
An avid reader, knitter and card player until the end, she also enjoyed making strawberry jam and was an excellent baker. The couple traveled extensively and especially loved trips to her favorite, Hawaii.
She is survived by five children, Sues Johnson, Cindy (Jerry) Kitkowski, Kathy Johnson, Scott (Susan) Johnson and Heidi (Tom) Junkans; a granddaughter; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Gladys Johnson and five nephews and nieces and their families.
In addition to her parents and husband, Floyd, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Peter, Thomas and Kenneth Johnson and nieces, Linda Johnson and Tami Chmura.
Private Entombment will be held at Forest Home Mausoleum in Marinette. Thielen Funeral Home of Marinette is assisting the family.
