Crivitz/Stephenson ETZ To Meet May 23
Issue Date: May 22, 2019
The Crivitz/Town of Stephenson Extra-Territorial Zoning Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 23 at the Crivitz Village Hall.
Agenda provides for discussion and possible action on purpose and general provisions of the ETZ Ordinance and discussion and possible action on description of the area for the ordinance.
The Village of Crivitz has invoked Extra-Territorial Zoning to affect properties in the Town of Stephenson that are located within a mile and a half of the village limits. Main intent was to protect the groundwater that supplies wells for the village water utility, but discussions at meetings of the Village of Crivitz Development Committee and the sole previous meeting of the ETZ Committee indicate that the zoning ordinance could eventually limit other activities on properties that are within the town but within a circumference that is not more than a mile and a half from the village limits. The Town of Stephenson does not have a zoning ordinance, but does have several ordinances governing building construction, etc..
Members representing the Stephenson Town Board on the ETZ Committee are Board Chair Mike Kudick and supervisors Jim Stradl and Kevin Solway. Representing Crivitz Village Board are its Development Committee Chair Jeff Dorschner and Trustees Stewart Swanson and Amy Grandaw.
Approval by at least four of the six ETZ Committee members is required for a motion to pass. Current uses of Town of Stephenson properties within the ETZ are "grandfathered" in, and frozen for the approximately two year period that work on the ordinance is expected to entail. Once a proposed ordinance is finalized there would be public hearings before it could go into effect.
