Issue Date: May 22, 2019

Bulldogs Take Regional Title/Marines Claim Runner Up Spot

Regional rounds of the WIAA State Golf Tournament got underway on Tuesday with Peshtigo, Marinette and Oconto Falls traveling to Golden Sands Golf Course in Cecil for Division 2 competition with the top four teams advancing to the Mosinee Sectional on Tuesday, May 28.

The Bulldogs and Marines finish one-two in the nine team field with Peshtigo posting a team score of 330 followed by Marinette with a 335. Mosinee finished third with a 361 followed by Wittenberg-Birnamwood who shot a 367.

The Bulldogs played consistent golf all day led by Trent Carriveau who finished second overall with a 75. Jordan Carvenough shot an 81 followed by Adam Bauman with an 84, and Ty Davis who finished with 90. On a day with tough course conditions and wind, Peshtigo coach Kyle Cheney thought his teams steady play helped them come out on top. "Our team depth and consistency once again proved to be the difference with four Bulldog golfers in the Top 10," said Cheney. Cheney pointed to Carriveau's exceptional play from tee to green as an important factor in his recent success. Coach Cheney also praised Adam Bauman who after a shakey start quickly righted the ship and shot consistent golf the rest of the way. "Todays win was a very encouraging start towards our team goal of returning to Madison," said Cheney.

After an uncharacteristic shakey front nine, where the Marines lost 10 strokes to the Bulldogs, Marinette rebounded nicely on the back nine. Ty Kretz shot a one under 34 on the inward nine and Matt Wagner fired an even par 35. Kretz shot a 74 on the day to take medalist honors. Wagner tied for fourth with a 79.
