Elizabeth M. "Betsy" (Lauerman) Klatt, 85, of Rock Island, Ill., passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019 at UnityPoint Health, Trinity-Rock Island.
Born Sept. 4, 1933, in Menominee, Mi., to Henry and Ruth (Lamb) Lauerman, she earned a teaching degree from Webster University in St. Louis and an advanced degree from Marquette University. She married Richard T. Klatt on Aug. 9, 1958 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menominee.
She spent her life caring for her children and was an elementary teacher for Rock Island Schools. Many summers were spent looking over the family as they built their second home, "The Point," in Michigan and continues as a reunion spot today.
A volunteer for the WVIK Reading for the Blind Program, she worked closely with Don Wooten and was sponsor of the Red Shoes Preschool Program. She served as a member of St. Pius Catholic Church, Rock Island and enjoyed weaving, following the Monarch butterfly and playing bridge.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; four children, Kathryn Vetter, Moline, Ill., John Klatt, Milwaukee, Dr. Mary Fischer (Frank Flores), Corpus Christi, Tx. and Dr. Paul Klatt, Big Rapids, Mi.; three grandchildren, all of Texas; a sister, Dorothy Carden, Pensacola, Fla.; a brother, Henry "Hank" (Jackie) Lauerman Jr., Marinette and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island on Thursday, May 23 at 3:30 p.m. followed by visitation from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pius Catholic Church on Friday, May 24 at 11 a.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum in Rock Island. Memorials can be made to the Activity Fund at Friendship Manor.
