Diana Schemonia was recently presented with the Hiram D. Fisher Masonic Scholarship for Niagara High School Class of 2019. The $1000 scholarship award was presented to her during the commencement ceremony on Friday, May 24th. Those selected for the awards must have demonstrated community and religious involvement, leadership, and service and have exhibited potential for future achievement.
The oldest child of Tonia and Joseph Schemonia, during her high school years she compiled an outstanding record of achievement in academics as she graduated second in her class. She enjoyed public speaking and earned first place in a speech contest sponsored by the American Association of University Women. She also was a two-time silver medalist at the state forensic contest and took third place this year in Science at the M&O Conference Academic Bowl. She also was chosen by the faculty to represent her school at Badger Girls State last summer.
Outside of school she enjoys painting, 3-D modeling, game design, snowshoeing, fishing, woodworking and learning about household electronics. Community service includes working at the Big Red Barn and at the high school concession stand, volunteering at the Almost Home Animal Shelter and attending the Washington D.C. service trip. Work experience includes babysitting, lawn maintenance and being a Shopko cashier.
This fall she will begin studies at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, and later will transfer to Northern Michigan University to major in Electrical Engineering. Her career goal is to become a high school teacher.
