Marinette Heads To State Tourney With Semi Final Win Over Bayport

The Marinette Post 39 legion baseball team may have had some rocky roads over this summers season but last Friday night they looked like a new refreshed team as they posted an 8-2 victory over the Green Bay Blue Jays in the Class AAA Legion Regionals.
Starting the scoring action in the second inning were the Marinette hitters. With the fans eagerly awaiting a score they delivered on a Will LaLonde single that brought in Brandon Woulf who had reached base off a deep hit fly ball to the outfield.
The Blue Jays responded during the third inning when Hayden Ostertag and Brett Hanson got singles. Both runners made their way around the bases for the 2-1 lead.
But in Marinette's half of the third that lead was retaken. Trevor Bloch got the rally going with a hit that resulted in a triple. Trey Bretl whacked a double to score Bloch while Jaden Werner swatted a single to bring home Bretl.
Werner, who was ready for an opening, saw one when an errant throw went wild, giving him the plate. Nick Teteak jumped in on the rally as well, working his way around the bases thanks to Blue Jay error and scoring off an error for the 5-2 lead.
The game saw the flood gates open wide for Marinette runners in the fourth as Mason Risner got things going with a double to left field. Bloch brought Risner in with a single while Werner dropped the bomb on the Blue Jays with a two run homer giving the game its 8-2 readout.
Werner earned the mound win allowing only two runs, four hits and three walks while striking out eight. Mike Lampshire took the loss for the Blue Jays allowing five runs (four earned) and one walk while striking out four.
At the plate Bloch was two of three with one RBI. Werner was two of four with three RBIs and a homer run. Bert went one of four with an RBI.
Shockers to Advance
The Marinette Post 39 legion baseball team has got the gears turning and look to make a name for themselves in this year post season tourney as they defeated the Shockers of Green Bay Sunday evening 11-9.
The Shockers took advantage of an early opening to take the games first lead. The Shockers' Jake Petasek doubled and later scored when Hunter Petska singled for the 1-0 lead.
But the small early lead did little to sap the strength of this powerful post season team as the Marinette boys slugged their way to a 6-1 second inning lead.
Nick Teteak got things going with a double while Brandon Woulf walked. Nolan Lemke made it to first off an error to give Marinette a no out bases loaded situation. Teteak took the plate off a Brandon Eick single whileMason Risner smacked a single to score Lemke. Nick made it home off a fielders choice while a two RBI single by Trey Bertl gave Marinette the 6-1 lead.
The Shockers were ready to call it off though as they post a few more runs over the third inning. Andrew Gehm scored off an RBI single. An error gave the Shockers another run whileKyle Zorn hit a single to score Petska for the 6-4 deficit.
In Marinette's portion of the third inning Lemke was able to reach base off a double while going home off a Risner single.
Jaden Werner got the fourth going for Marinette with a single while Hunter Would walked. Nick followed up with a hit resulting in a fielder's choice that scored Werner while LaLonde brought in Woulf a liner to the outfield. Eisner wrapped up the innings scoring by hitting home Eick off a single for the 10-5 lead.
Risner continued to enjoy success as he posted a single that brought in an Eick security run over the sixth.
At the plate Marinette was led by Risner who was three of four with a run and four RBIs. Nick was two of four with three runs and two RBIs while Bretl went one of four with two RBIs.
On the mind Seth Seefeldt took the win for Marinette allowing six runs (five earned) and eight hits while striking out four.

The Marinette Post 39 legion baseball, after a tough regular season, was able to pull their boot straps up and get things going when it really matters, in the tournament, where they were able to post a 11-2 victory over Green Bay Southwest before winning the championship round over Bayport 10-5.
The win gives Marinette a berth in the state legion tournament,.
In game one the Marinette boys were able to stay a few runs ahead of Green Bay before busting the game open in the fourth and sixth innings.
Post 39 got things rolling in the game against Southwest with a three run response to Green Bay's opening frame run.
Trevor Bloch was the first to touch the plate for Marinette doing so on a Jaden Werner single.
Trey Bretl was next to make the rounds going home off a Nick Teteak single up the middle. Brandon Eick gave Marinette their third run when he swatted in Woulf off a single.
After Southwest posted two runs in their top half of the second inning Marinette kept the lead safe with a one run push. Mason Risner got that run when he crossed home off a Werner sacrifice fly.
Then came the fourth for Marinette and with it a strong scoring p8sh that seemed to break the will of Southwest.
Bloch was hit by a pitch in that inning before the bases were loaded up by two consecutive walks. Nick Teteak took advantage of the big moment, delivering on a deep hit shot to the warning track that scored three runner.
But the scoring wasn't over yet as Marinette shutdown Southwest before blowing the game wide open with a four run sixth.
Lemke posted two RBIs on a deep hit to center that scored Werner and Teteak while Will LaLonde hit a sacrifice fly that scored Brandon Eick.
At the plate Marinette was led by Bloch with a four of four perfect showing with two runs. Teteak was three of four with a run and four RBIs while Eick went two of four with one run and one RBI. On the mound Marinette took the win thanks to Bretl who allowed six hits, two earned runs and three walks while striking out seven.
Justin Hill took the loss giving up 10 earned runs, 12 hits and three walks while striking out two.
Game two saw Marinette build a nice lead in the early goings. Teteak got the first run off his ground out that scored Bloch while Bretl drove home another run off his single. A one run second and one run third gave Marinette a nice 5-3 lead over a tough Bayport squad.
But a five run fourth would give Marinette the buffer that needed to hold off their tough opponents.
During the fourth Risner led off with a single and scored when Bloch hit a single. Teteak found a way to get a few more scores in off his hit that scored Werner and Bretl for the 10-5 lead.
At the plate Marinette was led Bloch with a two of four showing. He had two runs and two RBIs. Teteak was two of five with a run and three RBIs while Lemke went two of four with two RBIs.
Austin Burnside obtained the win for Marinette allowing four earned runs, six hits and five walks while striking out two.
