Crivitz Ski Cats Take 3rd at State
Issue Date: July 25, 2019
On Saturday, July 20th the Crivitz Ski Cats traveled to Wisconsin Rapids for the 52nd annual State Show Ski Tournament that has been held at the red sand beach of Lake Wazeecha since 1978. Under the careful guidance of 2019 Show Director Jon Jossie the Ski Cats competed in Division 2 against seven other teams of comparable size from across Wisconsin. Each team gets 60 minutes to complete their themed ski show of 13 scoring acts and various skits. This year, in spite of having a youthful team of 45 skiers the Ski Cats battled through a day of severe weather and preformed a near flawless show with the ending pyramid coming through the show course late in the day with a magnificent sunset as a back drop.
The Ski Cats placed 3rd in team competition and had numerous members compete in individual routines on Thursday, July 18th including Strapped Doubles Couples, and Swivel.
In addition the Ski Cats were recognized as the "best" in Division 2 for their Dock and Equipment crew (Megan Lazansky, Heather Langer, Melanie Mursau and Kari Kosir) Most unique or Original Act (Josie Smerchek is preforming a backwards foot-hold, sliding dock start on a swivel ski with Jeff Mursau mastering the driving, Sheri Olive holding the rope release and Melanie Mursau lending a hand on the dock for this extremely difficult act). Dibble-Woods / Cook award for the most outstanding female skier of Division 2 (Josie Smerchek receives this prestigious award for the 3rd consecutive year).
The Ski Cats perform their free home shows at Lake Noquebay Park each Wednesday through Aug. 14th with a final "Corn Roast" show Saturday, Aug. 17th. Shows start at 6 pm.
