Donald Michael Tenarvitz, 93, of Wallace, Mi., passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2019 with family at his side.
Born Feb. 17, 1926, to Paul and Emaline (Tousignant) Tenarvitz, he graduated from Menominee High School and grew up in the Sobieski and 9-Mile Farm area of Menominee County. He married Eleanor Kosewski at St. Mary's Catholic Mission and they were together for 54 years. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, worked at L.E. Jones Company and Bell Packaging/Menominee Paper Company, where he had a long career in the Waxtex division prior to becoming store room clerk from where he retired after 42 years.
Known for his wit and sense of humor with his coworkers, he was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Birch Creek, Mi., where he was an active member of the Parish. He also belonged to the Menominee Chapter of the Knights of Columbus, the Menominee VFW Post 1887, The Menominee-Ingallston Volunteer Fire Department, Whitetails Unlimited and U.P. Whitetails.
He cherished time with family and he and his wife enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, Milwaukee Brewers games and casinos to play bingo. A fan of polka music, Friday Fish Fry's, bingo night and the camaraderie of his bingo buddies, he also enjoyed deer hunting, working in his garden, picking mushrooms and wild asparagus and living life to the fullest, but hunting season brought him joy, visiting friends and relatives at deer camps, enjoying the peace and quiet at his favorite hunting blind "on the Ridge' and telling tales of whitetail bucks that did and didn't get away. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was a kind, loving and understanding person.
He is survived by two sons-in-law, William and Samuel; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor; a daughter, Joan A (William) Kitchen; a daughter, Gloria J. (Samuel) Morrow; four brothers, infant Raymond, Raymond C., Roger and William; three sisters, Elsie, Caroline and Marion.
Visitation will be will be held at Holy Redeemer Parish in Menominee, Mi. on Friday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. until time of a Mass of Christian Burial at noon, followed by a luncheon. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Parish Cemetery in Sobieski with Military Honors conducted by the Military 20 Year Club. Cadieu Funeral Home of Menominee is assisting the family with arrangements.
