Laura Ellen (James) Patricia Huffman, 89, of Marinette, formerly of Gaylord and Menominee, Mi., passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019 at Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area in Marinette.
Born Oct. 22, 1929 in Muskegon, Mi., to the late Thomas and Gretchen (Phillips) James, although her name was Laura, her father called her Patsy and to the family she was known as Pat. Her father passed away in 1935 and in 1937 her mother married again and the family moved to Wisconsin. She graduated from Marinette High School in 1947 as a member of the National Honor Society.
While working at Woolworth's, she met Robert L. Huffman and they married on Jan. 2, 1948 and were together until his death on Aug. 22, 1999.
Later, she and Michael Milidonis had a companionship and were involved in many community activities and traveled often. In 2004 they moved to Gaylord, Mi. and he passed away in 2017.
A people person, she worked at Sears Department Store from 1963 till retiring in 1989. She began in the catalog department, excelled through her career and retired as the Manager of the credit department. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star and held many offices, the last being Worthy Matron.
She was also involved and held offices in the Menominee GFWC, the Marinette Area Business and Professional Women, the Northern Michigan Artists Guild, Gaylord Area Council for the Arts, Michaywe Red Hatters and Writers Bloc at GACA She was also involved in her Church and led the Bible study at the Brook.
She is survived by a son, Kurt (Rise) Huffman of Cincinnati, Oh.; two daughters, Kathleen (Greg) Dunlap of Laingsburg, Mi. and Kris Huffman of Menominee, Mi.; a granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Constance Armbrust of Marinette, and Sandra (Mryl) Child of Allouez; a brother, Mike (Deborah Bilzing) Deiters of De Forest; a sister-in-law, Judy Huffman of Marinette and many nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, William and Ruth Huffman; three brothers-in-laws, James and Richard Huffman and Richard Armbrust; a sister-in-law, Ann Huffman, of Menominee, Mi.; two nieces, Sara Deiters and Margo Huffman and her companion, Michael Milidonis.
Friends may call at St. James Church in Marinette on Thursday, Aug. 8 from 2 .p.m until time of Eastern Star Services at 3 p.m., followed by Church services with Rev. Linda L. Forray officiating. Refreshments and fellowship will follow in the closed pavilion at Red Arrow Beach in Marinette. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee. Donations can be directed to the Spies Public Library or the Gaylord Artist Gild (GACA). Cadieu Funeral Home of Menominee is assisting the family.
