Alphonse John Basak, 92, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019 surrounded by his family.
Born May 6, 1927 in Beaver, to the late Valentine and Aniela (Yerz) Basak, he married Rosemary Fabiszak on Feb. 14, 1953 and they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in February 2019. He served in the United States Army from July 1952 to July 1954 with 18 months in Korea and was honorably discharged with rank of Corporal.
A farmer, he also enjoyed fishing, gardening and anything he could do outside. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War (VFW).
A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was proud of his six children,14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; five children, Diana (Mark) Roach of Oxnard, Ca., Stanley (Jayna) of Menominee, Mi., Alphonse II (Mary) of Crivitz, Joseph (Janice) of Mosinee and Dawna (Ronald) Coel of Tigerton; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles and 10 brothers and sisters.
Family greeted relatives and friends at Saint Mary's Church in Crivitz on Monday, Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. until time of a service at 11 a.m. Fr. Frederick Sserugga officiated followed by Military Rites at Saint Mary's Cemetery. Rhodes Charapata Funeral Home of Crivitz assisted the family with arrangements.
