Gillett Leads Area Teams at Irish Invitational

Issue Date: September 12, 2019

Local teams competed at the competitive Irish Invitational in Kaukauna on Saturday, with some taking part in the small school race and others facing large schools from northeast Wisconsin and beyond.

Falls' boys were 11th in the 17-team large school field. Led by Joe Adams who finished 23rd with a 17:47.6 clocking, Brendan Konitzer was 58th (18:52), Isaac Raddatz came in 70th (19:30), Braden Uelman finished 93rd (21:01), Tyler Butz ran 22:28 for 103rd to finish out the Panther scoring.

The Oconto Falls girls were 13th of 14 teams.

Of 104 runners in the large school race, Autumn Canavera led the Panther runners, taking 29th (21:07.7). Carleigh Kaczmarek was 53rd (22:39.7), Autumn Magnin took 72nd (23:53.8), Alexis Euclide was 90th (24:52.8), Jaden Reed was close behind in 91st (25:12.9), Haley Bell took 93rd (25:39.5) and her teammate Ericka Havemeier finished just .4 seconds later in 94th (25:39.9).

Marinette's boys took 14th. Led by senior Matt Maye who finished 16th (17:29), Ryan Demmith was the second Marine to cross the finish placing 75th with a (19:46). Alec Queever was 80th (20:02), Caden Sullivan came in 89th (20:23), and Jake Sommerfeldt crossed the line in 23:47 to round out the Marine scoring with 107th place.

The Marinette girls were 11th, with senior Katelyn Kitzinger sixth to lead the way (19:58.7). Molly Knutson took 60th (22:58.2), Hadley Reines was 63rd (23:01.1), Samantha Pieper placed 78th (24:16.2), Ava Dahlman came in 89th (24:45.5), Maya Carviou was 98th (26:26.9) and Koressa Allgeyer rounded out the Marinette finishers in 103rd (27:36.8).

In the small school race, Gillett's girls continued to flex their muscles in the early part of the season with a second-place finish of 13 teams.

Sylvia Hansen was third of 91 runners (20:28.1), Ryann Wagner took sixth (20:32.1), Kasey Hansen was 14th (21:37.9) and Megan Wagner came in 17th (21:45.1). Continuing the consistent finishes for Gillett, Alaina Herzog was 22nd (22:25.5), Cheyenne Krueger was 26th (23:06.6) and Angela Mosconi came in 34th (23:26.4).

Not to be outdone, the Gillett boys took second place in a 13-team boys race, just six points off first-place Brillion.

With just five runners, every Tiger runner needed to be good, and they were. Derek Hanson was fifth (16:59.5), Alex Peterson took eighth (17:18.2), Evan Peterson came in 16th (18:09.4), Riley Engebretsen came in 20th (18:26.6) and Connor Hanson finished 25th (18:37.3).

Coleman's girls took fifth, with Faith King coming in 16th (21:41.7), Sara Seefeldt taking 31st (23:19.3), Mariah Mursau placing 45th (24:28.8), Molly and Megan Seefeldt in 54th and 55th, respectively (25:02.7, 25:08.8), Ember DeWitt in 57th (25:10.2) and Mariah Payette taking 71st (26:01.5).

The Coleman boys were 11th. Karson Casper took 23rd to lead the Cougars (18:36.9). Alex Rennie was 38th (19:26.4), Noah Rennie came in 63rd (20:52.5), Ray LeMieux was 66th (20:58.6), Sam King took 71st (22:02.4) and John Nowak took 72nd (22:03.4).

The Peshtigo girls were ninth. Sydney Lund took 15th (21:40.6), Emily Halfmann was 23rd (22:33.6), Beverly Bloch placed 47th (24:34.4), Maria Powers finished 59th (25:12) and Jessi Swiatnicki crossed in 76th (26:57.2). Nathalie Hurley took 82nd (27:50) and Salsabeel Salem was 87th (29:42.1).

Peshtigo's boys placed fifth. Caleb Smith was seventh (17:12.7), Andrew Nelson took 11th (17:50.7), Logan Smith was 22nd (18:32.6), Cole Grabian took 70th (21:54.2) and MAtt Jornlin was 73rd (22:03.6). Rowan Gillespie was 90th (24:34.8).

For Wausaukee, Madelyn Schlies was 31st (23:18.4) and Kaelyn Schlies took 56th (25:09.8).

Devin Brunette led the Ranger boys with a 41st-place finish (19:38.6), Andrew Schroeder took 56th (20:18.1) and Mikeal Shedlock-Davis finished 91st (25:28).

at Goodman/Pembine

A handful of local teams competed at the Goodman-Pembine Invitational on Thursday.

Gladstone won both the girls' and boys' meets. Crivitz was third in the girls' standings.

Oconto took fourth in the girls' standings with a lot of runners entering the race. Hannah Wusterbarth led the team with a 20th-place finish in the field of 48 (25:48.9). Josie Mireles cae in 21st (26:00.4), Brooklyn Rasmussen took 23rd (26:08.1), Jadyn Floyd took 28th (26:31.6), Elli Finger came in 33rd (27:08) and Elizabeth Peterson was 35th (28:24.5). Then began a run of Blue Devils, with Maddelyn Olive 37th (28.40.7), Nevaeh Brill finished 38th (28:45), Hallie Wusterbarth was 39th (28:51.9), Katrina Salewski took 40th (29:00.5) and Alayna Westenberg took 41st (29:04.1). Justice Mitchell took 43rd (29:30.3) and Calysta Kurz placed 45th (29:48.9).

Oconto's boys were third of six teams, led by race-winner Josh Woller, who bested the rest of the 47 other runners in the field by at least 10 seconds (16:55.3).

For the rest of the Blue Devils, Preston Williams was 13th (21:02.4), Josh Maynard took 15th (21:05.7), Bryton Fuller was 18th (21:41.3) and Sean Durand took 20th (21:54.5).

Braden Shallow was 36th (24:41.4), Christian Koch took 37th (24:41.6), Kyle McFaden was 40th (25:33.9), Grant Rasmussen placed 46th (27:12.2) and Ethan Brooks was 48th (29:50.1).

Crivitz saw its boys take fifth. Joey Pickett led the team with a 12th-place finish (20:42.6), Jacob Behrendt was 22nd (21:56.7), Alec Grandaw was 25th (22:19.7), Liam Roman placed 30th (23:07.2), Chad Schroeder came in 33rd (23:51.8) and Fox Gerner was 38th (24:48.4).

The Crivitz girls took third, led be Bella Galindo and her third-place finish (22:01.4). Riley Roman was 13th (24:21.2), Zoey Brown was 24th (26:13.5), Taylor Giese came in 25th (26:13.5), Abby Bauer was 34th (28:06.3) and Brook Bourne came in 47th (31:38.6).

The Goodman-Pembine boys were sixth. For the home squad, Kevin Strietzel was 14th (21:02.8), Kody Stahley was 19th (21:54.4), Lamarr Lewis took 35th (24:32.2), Micah Heath came in 41st (25:44.0) and Ely Marcy placed 42nd (26:10.7).

Florence was fifth of the five girls' teams. Faith Neuens was 12th (23:59.6), Julia Hallgren came in 22nd (26:02), Kiera Sullivan came in 29th (26:46.9), Caitlyn Kelley was 36th (28:#5.7), Audrey Selden was 42nd (29:15.1), Crystal Leffler was 44th (29:31.3) and Kathleen Selden came in 46th (29:51.6).

Suring freshman Olivia Noack missed first place by less than three seconds in the girls' race, taking second with a time of 21:53.6.

The Eagles had seven runners in the middle school race, giving hope for the next generation of Suring runners, but they had just four varsity runners. Beyond Noack, Hailey Thompson was 14th (24:26.3), Chantelle Vandenelzen was 19th (25:28) and Maddy Vendevelde came in 32nd (26:57.6).

Wausaukee's Madelyn Schlies was seventh in the girls' race (22:51.3). For the Wausaukee boys, Andrew Schroeder was seventh (19:35.6), Casey Nutt was 31st (23:39.8) and Mikeal Shedlock-Davis was 39th (25:30.2).
