Gerald L. Doberstein, 79, of Marinette, passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019 at home.
Born Oct. 3, 1939, to the late Vincent and Hilda (Tuma) Thomas in Peshtigo, he graduated from Menominee High School in 1957. On Aug.11, 1962, he married Fay VanHaren at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Marinette and she preceded him in death on Jan. 5, 2019. He worked at General Motors in Milwaukee and Scott Paper Company in Marinette. Together they owned and operated Jerry's Bar.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding around looking for "treasures", but mostly loved time with his grandchildren, especially traveling for sports, basketball and baseball.
Survivors include three sons, Gerald Doberstein of Green Bay, Geoffrey (special friend, Dianne MacEachern) Doberstein of Marinette and James (Denise) Doberstein of Menominee, Mi.; a daughter, Jacalyn McPherson of Marinette; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, James "Booie" (Jon) VanHaren, Kay (Darrell) Hebert, Donna (Jeff) Zeratski and Mary (Richard) Matz and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Fay, he was preceded in death by a brother, Darrel (Donna) Doberstein.
Visitation was held at Thielen Funeral Home in Marinette on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 4 p.m. until time of shared memories at 6 p.m. Memorials can be made to the Rescue Squad or Marinette High School Baseball.
