Arnold "Buck" Schmidt, 94, of Wallace, Mi., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019 at Roubal Care and Rehab Center.
Born July 9, 1925 at home in the Greenwood area, to the late Ben and Lilian (Bouer) Schmidt, he joined the United States Army during the World War II conflict and served from 1943 till 1946. On July 19, 1947 he married Eva Dragic and she preceded him in death on July 21, 1989. He then married Lucille Lauerman on Sept. 7, 1990 and she preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 2000. He worked at Menominee Paper for 40 years, retiring on June 2, 1987.
He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, VFW Post 1887 of Menominee and the United Paper workers International Union Local 172 for 40 years. He enjoyed hunting, brook trout fishing and polka dancing.
He is survived by a son, Douglas (Debbie) Schmidt and a son-in-law, Steve Tickler, both of Wallace; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry (Beverly) Schmidt; a sister, Dixie Egofske and many nieces and nephews.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Tickler and brothers and sisters.
Visitation was held Friday, Oct. 11, 2019 at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until time of Military Honors at 1 p.m., presented my the American Legion Post Stephenson, Mi. A Mass of Christian Burial followed at Precious Blood Catholic Church at 2 p.m. Fr. Don Loskot officiated with burial in Mellen Township Cemetery.
