Joseph Donald "Don" Roland, 79, of Crivitz, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16 at home surrounded by family.
Born May 5, 1940 in Marinette, to the late Joseph and Eunice Roland, he graduated from High School in 1958 and Carthage College in 1962, where he excelled in basketball. He then earned a Business Degree and worked at AC Electronics in Milwaukee until 1966 when he joined Ansul Company in Marinette. There he served as Supervisor and Manager of Cost Accounting, Manager of Corporate Accounting, Treasurer and Controller and Vice President before being named President in 1987.
He was active in city affairs serving as Chairman of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority and also served on the Marinette Catholic Central Foundation. He retired in 1990 and enjoyed time with family fishing, camping, golfing, hunting, traveling and the outdoors. He and his wife enjoyed going to Packer games and tailgating with family and friends. A loving father, husband and grandfather, he was a friend to everyone.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary; four sons, Mark (Denise), Mike, David (Michelle) and Daniel (Carrie); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jan (Linda), Russel (Debbie); three sisters, Beverly (Bill) Kelly, Carol (John) Meyers and Linda (Jerry) Truitt; a brother-in-law, Gary (Terri) Bearson and many nieces; nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Bearson.
Visitation was held on Monday, Oct. 21 at Thielen Funeral Home in Marinette from 4 p.m. until time of a Vigil Prayer Service at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass for family and friends took place on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Holy Family Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Marinette at 11 a.m. Fr. John Bergstadt officiated followed by a luncheon at the Church Hall. Entombment was in Forest Home Cemetery. Donations can be made to Prostate Cancer Foundation cure.pcf.org
