Richard E. Cocquyt, 87, of Niagara, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.
Born Aug. 27, 1932 in Kingsville, Canada, to the late Emil and Ernestine (Zeop) Cocquyt, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 until an honorable discharge in 1953. He married Inez Raymond and worked as a police officer for the City of Niagara for many years before retiring. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara, the Knights of Columbus, Niagara, the Niagara Lions Club and was past member of Oak Crest Golf Course.
Survivors include his wife, Inez Cocquyt, Niagara; two sons, Richard Cocquyt Jr., Orland, Fla. and Donald Cocquyt, Simi Valley, Ca.; a daughter, Cheryl (Perry) Ellis, Kingsford, Mi.; a brother, William "Bill" (Theresa) Allington, Knoxville, Tn.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; two best friends, Kerry Grippen, Niagara and Shorty Delongchamp, Kingsford, Mi. and a bonus grandson of Niagara.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and James Allington and a sister, Jean Allington.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 14 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara from 9:30 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Michael Lightner officiating. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery with Military Honors at graveside accorded by the VFW Cretton Tutas Post 136 of Niagara and the American Legion Uren-Cooper-Johnson Post 50 of Iron Mountain, Mi. Jacobs Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Niagara Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
