Students in the Peshtigo Middle/High School honored area veterans on Veterans Day with breakfast and patriotic program at the school on Monday Nov.11. Over 75 veterans and their families enjoyed breakfast and camaraderie from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and a program followed. Amy Reed, organizer and students of the Rho-Kappa history society hosted the event. Veterans received door prizes and a "thank you for your service" from the students. Mail call was also called out as many students wrote letters to the veterans. Lieutenant Commander Joseph Stark USN-Retired was the main speaker with Sgt. Ryan Liske, National Guard recruiter as the guest speaker. Both men spoke about their military service and to always be prepared to act when needed. Peshtigo Middle/High School paid tribute to veterans and guests with a variety of special activities especially dedicated to Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11. A free breakfast was served from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. under the direction of PHS history teacher Amy Reed, students of the Rho-Kappa history society hosted the breakfast. Rho-Kappa students also gave the veterans the opportunity to win door prizes continbuted by area residents and businesses wanting to show their appreciation to veterans.
When the words "Mail Call" rang out through the room Rho-Kappa students distributed letters written to the veterans from students.
Following the breakfast a full student assembly gathered in the High School gym to honor veterans. Welcome and Pledge of Allegiance was presented by Rho-Kappa student McKenna Evancheck.
Key note speaker during the program was Lieutenant Commander Joseph Stark-USN-Retired, with support speaker U.S. National Guard Recruiter. Sergeant Ryan Liske, State Government-National Security.
Special selections paid tribute to veterans were performed by the Peshtigo Middle/High School Choir and Middle/High School Band paid tribute to the veterans representing each of the five different branches of the US Military, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy.
