Charles J. Nylund, 86, of Menominee, Mi., passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019 at Rennes Health Care Center-East in Peshtigo.
Born Nov. 14, 1933, to Wilbert (Peppa) and Antonette (Jenny) Nylund, he graduated from Marinette High School in 1951 and enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War. He married Nancy Monson on Aug. 27, 1955 at Bethel Lutheran Church and they had two children.
In younger years, he enjoyed working at Pederson's Fish House and then commercial fishing with his father. His love for fishing continued for 70 more years on the Great Lakes. He also served as a firefighter for the City of Menominee for 20 years. As a commercial fisherman, he made many friends in many ports that all became an important part of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy; a daughter, Kim (Pete) Pericolosi; a son, Kevin (Laura) Nylund; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Katherine Francour; a brother, Ken (Marge) Nylund; a sister-in-law, Molly Monson; five nieces; one nephew and lifelong friend, Jim Derusha.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie; a sister, Joan; his mother and father-in-law, Pearl and Walter Monson and a brother-in-law, Ken Monson.
Visitation will be held at Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home in Marinette on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral services at 1 p.m. Pastor Scott Ehle will officiate with burial will in Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette. A memorial fund will be established in his honor.
