Rose V. (Adler) Marcely, 73, formerly of Dunbar, passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019 at MaryHill Manor in Niagara.
Born Oct. 29, 1946, to the late Gerald and Leona (Endres) Adler in Madison, she entered Holy Family Academy on Aug. 28, 1960 as a freshman student at age 13 and graduated in 1964 as Salutatorian of her class. She received a Latin award as a senior and was editor of the school paper.
An active member of glee club, choir, and journalism, she was also a student librarian. On Aug.28, 1960, she entered the Postulancy of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity and made her first vows on June 14, 1966.
Her principal apostolic work while a member of the community included Elementary School Teacher and Principal and she taught at Guardian Angels Elementary School, grade 4, West Point, Ne.; St. William Elementary, grade 6 in Waukesha, Holy Family Elementary, Grade 7 in Lindsay, Ne.; St. Sylvester's Elementary, grade 7 and 8 and Principal in Woodsfield, Oh., St. Nicholas Elementary, Principal in Zanesville, Oh, Immaculate Conception Elementary,Principal in Yuma, Az. and St. Joseph's Elementary, grades 7 and 8 and part-time Principal in Manitowoc.
She proudly served as Principal of St. Thomas Aquinas Academy (formerly Marinette Catholic Central High School) from 1994-2000 and in 1997 was granted dispensation from her vows, working for their alumni foundation until moving to Green Bay. There, she worked for the St. Norbert College Foundation as Principal at Resurrection Catholic School in Allouez and then Principal at St. Thomas More Catholic School in Green Bay where she made life-long friends and influenced lives of many students through education.
On June 15, 2006, she married Dennis Marcely in DePere and they enjoyed traveling, volunteering for Pembine Elementary School playground monitor duty, visiting family and friends and being CASA volunteers.
She was involved in the Dunbar community serving on elections board, chairperson of the Dunbar Veteran's Memorial Park Scholarship fund, started the local Dunbar newsletter, The Pine Tree Press and also enjoyed her time on the Pembine School Board.
She went on the trap line with her husband many mornings where they enjoyed watching the sun rise while sharing a cup of coffee. She was a great cheerleader, and ran a successful business, Sparkling Rosie's Home Care and Cleaning Service where she helped many clients in the Northwoods. She loved to send handwritten letters to family and friends, always adding some fancy stickers to the envelope and also loved their home, new puppy, Kia, living with nature and being outdoors.
She was a delightful, Joy-filled, bubbly, energetic, vibrant woman who never grew weary of her activities, was talented, outgoing and related well with students, staff and the public. She loved life and lived it to the fullest bringing joy into the lives of others. She will be missed by the many people who knew her and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 13 years, Dennis Marcely of Dunbar; step-daughters, Jenniffer (Eric) Kiefer of Appleton and Margaret "Maggie" (Alfred) Banks of Augusta,Ga.; two grandchildren; a brother, Joe (Marilyn) Adler; two sisters, Mary Lu Kuehn and Geri (Virgil) Waugh and many other friends and relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Mike (Etta) Adler and a sister, Marjorie Ledworowski.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Saint Thomas Aquinas Academy Gym (formerly Catholic Central High School) in Marinette on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 1 p.m. until time of a Prayer Service at 4 p.m. Thielen Funeral Home of Marinette is assisting the family with arrangements.
