Clifford Eugene Belonga, 94, of Clare, Mi., passed away on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019.
Born Feb. 23, 1925, to Howard and Edna Belonga in Tomahawk, his family moved to Marinette when he was a young child, which he always called his hometown. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and after returning to Marinette from war, he met Joan C. Martindale. They married in 1947 and spent 59 years together before her passing in 2006.
They moved to Detroit in 1951 where he worked at General Motors Hydramatic Division for 32 years, rising through the ranks and retired early. His career gave him satisfaction and many long-term friends.
After retiring, he spent many years delivering food to shut-ins and helped organize activities at a senior center. He also enjoyed long walks, reading and beating the contestants on Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy from his easy chair.
He is survived by four children, Michael (Cynthia) Belonga, Priscilla (David) Hinze, Kathy Belonga and Annette (Greg) Belonga; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly (Donald) Boerschinger; a half-sister, Brenda (Mike) Massio; a step-brother, Don (Carol) Belonga and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; a brother, Robert Belonga; two sisters, Carol ( Robert) Brukardt and Lois (Robert) Galarneau; a step-brother, Dick (Yvonne) Belonga; many brothers and sisters-in-law and a great-grandson, Gabriel Hinze.
Private interment will be held at Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette. A Memorial Service will be held in Spring at a time and location to be announced. Memorial donations can be sent to the Michael J. Fox foundation to find a cure for Parkinson's disease.
