THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Gail Bantes Nominated for Favorite Crossing Guard
Issue Date: November 27, 2019
Gail Bantes has been nominated for America's Favorite Crossing Guard by Safe Kids Marinette County. This is a campaign held by Safe Kids Worldwide. After Gail's accident in February, SK Wisconsin and Worldwide reached out to SK Marinette County about Bantes. She would be perfect for nomination. Voting started Nov. 25 through Dec.12.
Bantes has dedicated her life to her community and the safety of children. She was a bus driver for 43 years, and then became a crossing guard for the City of Peshtigo, serving the Peshtigo School District for the past several years. In February of 2019, at the age of 82, Gail was struck by a vehicle while crossing children. She sustained injuries from the incident, but also saved two children with her heroic efforts, pushing them out of the way before being hit herself. Gail loves to volunteer and can often be seen helping at the community center or planting flowers in the city flower pots. She helps wherever she is needed and loves her community.
