Lyle R. Knowlton, Sr., 90, of Marinette, passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2019 in Green Bay.
Born July 16, 1929 in Lodi, to the late Axel and Rosella (Carberry) Knowlton, he moved to Milwaukee as a child and graduated from South Division High School there. He served in the United States Army for 20 years from 1946 to 1966, serving during World War II and in Korea and Vietnam. In 1972, he moved to Peshtigo until relocating to Marinette in 1975.
On Aug. 31, 1977 he married Lorraine Paitel in Spring Valley, Ca and she preceded him in death on Nov. 24, 2011. Together they owned and operated "Care A Van" Specialized Transportation Services for several years, transporting handicapped and elderly to and from Doctors appointments, hospital visits and private functions.
A member of Holy Family Parish and the VFW, Post 1967, he was a past Commander and also held the office of 8TH District Commander for two years. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
He is survived by two sons, Lyle Jr. (Diane) of Milwaukee and William of Larchwood, Ia.; four daughters, Gwendolyn Jones of Whitesboro, Tx., Charlotte Bury of Milwaukee, Karen (Michael) Monreal of Topeka, Ks. and Paula Knowlton of Geneva, Oh.; a step-son, Kevin (Kim) Bahl of Marinette; a brother, Richard; two sisters, Kathleen Tarman and Iona Fowler; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Lorraine, he was preceded in death by four brothers; a sister and a grandson, Michael.
Visitation was held at Thielen Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 4 p.m. until time of a Wake Service at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass was held at Holy Family Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Taylor St. on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Celestine Byekwaso officiating. Burial with Military Honors was performed by the Military Twenty Year Club in Pine Hill Cemetery in Spruce.
