Gillett Hosts Third Annual Holiday Tournament

Issue Date: January 2, 2020

Gillett Slams Oconto with Loss in Holiday Tourney

The Gillett Tigers started the years home court holiday tournament off with a bang last Friday as they fired off a huge 66-39 win over the Oconto Blue Devils 66-39.

Gillett's big first half, which saw the girls in black and red fire in 37 points was keyed by great efforts from Aubrey DeBauch and Karissa Schaal. The two combined for 28 of the 37 first half points. DeBauch bagged 16 of them while Schaal hit for 12. Sydney Young also started strong as she fired off two three points over the opening frame.

Oconto's Jenna Hornbald did what she could to keep her Blue Devils in it over the opening half as she got 12 of her teams 24 points.

DeBauch and Schaal didn't slow down over the second half either as they helped to push their team to that game winning 66 point readout.

DeBauch added another 10 points to their tally while Schaal finished strong with an additional nine points.

DeBauch ended the evening as the top scorer for the game with 26 points. Teammate Schaal finished with 20 points while Young added up 10.

Menominee took control early and never relinquished their lead throughout as they built a nice 33-22 lead at the half.

Josie Hofer hit three behind the arc buckets over the first for Menominee while Jenna Nolde helped to push her Maroons ahead with nine points.

Gillett recovered over the second half as Karissa Schaal fired in 11 points along with Aubrey DeBauch who helped out with her seven points.

Gillett was led by Schaal with 15 points and DeBauch with 11. Camryn Long added up nine.

"I thought we played a lot better today," said Gillett Head Coach Justin Daul. "They improved all around over the summer. The thing about Menominee is they can shoot the ball; well. If we play solid basketball defensively we can make them struggle, and we just needed to make shots. I thought we did a fantastic job."
