Sentinel Structures Timber In Award Winning Building
Issue Date: January 9, 2020
On Jan. 23 Sentinel Structures, Inc. of Peshtigo, will be recognized for materials supplied for the new Altra Federal Credit Union in Rochester, Minn. The award will be given by the Minnesota/North Dakota chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors at their annual "Awards of Excellence in Construction" event in Minneapolis. The new credit union will be presented with the Eagle Award for commercial construction between $1 and $5 million.
The Peshtigo firm made Southern Pine glued laminated columns, beams, and trusses for the roof structure of the credit union complex. Company engineers worked with the general contractor, Weiser Brothers Contractors of LaCrescent, Minn. to provide the mass timber roof framing system. The building was designed by River Architects of LaCrosse.
Six parallel chord laminated trusses of various length are spaced at 10 feet on center. They were preassembled in the Peshtigo factory.
The warmth and beauty of natural wood can be seen in the lobby and waiting areas along with general offices of the new credit union.
Local Peshtigo area businesses assisted Sentinel with the project. Connection steel was made by G&G Midwest of Beaver. Sherwin-Williams in Marinette made the sealer used on the timber surfaces.
Sentinel Structures manufactures structural glued laminated timber beams, arches, trusses, bridge components, highway noise barriers, ship timbers and many other engineered timber products. It operates in Peshtigo at the site of the original timber laminating plant in North America, established in 1934.
