Coleman/Lena Record Dual Match Victories

Issue Date: January 30, 2020

Coleman Takes down D2 Power Luxemburg-Casco 44-26

Coleman and Luxemburg-Casco have made a tradition of close wrestling matches. When the two teams met Tuesday, Coleman used a run of four wins early in the match to get the 44-26 team win.

Lux-Casco ranked 4th in the Division two wrestling polls, started with three points from three-time state medalist Lucas Joniaux (138), who beat Karson Casper by a 7-2 score.

Coleman , the top ranked D3 team in the state would win the next four matches, however, with Sam Kuchta (145) beating Tristan Thiry by 10-2 major decision, Jakob Horton (152) pinning Isaac Blohowiak in 3:18, Tyler Blanchard pinning Ethan Jerabek in 46 seconds and Cole Klimek (170) beating Collin Schroeder in a 2 minute, 33 second pin.

After state champion Reece Worachek (182) pinned Coby Den Ruyter in 4:47 for the Spartans, Coleman got 10 points from two of its former state qualifiers, with Jonathon Bieber (195) pinning Joseph Chervenka in 3:35 and Shamus McLain (220) topping Travis LeGrave by 11-0 major decision.

Kyle Kroll (285) narrowly topped Spencer Karban by 3-1 sudden victory and Easton Worachek (106) beat John Nowak by 15-0 tech fall to make the score 32-17 with four matches to go.

Sandwiched between was nine points for Lux-Casco, with Hunet Joniaux (120) beating Chance Gruber 4-2 and Luke Shefchik (126) winning by forfeit, but it didn't matter, as Coleman had the team win sealed up.

Coleman coach Kevin Casper said his team wrestled "excellent" in the match. "Another great match for us to get prepared for the postseason. It's been quite a few years since we've beaten Luxemburg Casco so it was a nice win for us. Again pins played a big part in our victory and not giving up pins or extra bonus points," said Casper. "Great match to build on. We need to keep working hard to prepare for second part of season that means the most."
