Born Jan. 9, 1950 in Oconto Falls, to the late Carl Sellen and Elna (Brander) Patz, he was was raised on the family farm and graduated from Lena High School in 1968. He served in the United States Army from October 1970 and was stationed in Germany until an honorable discharge in August 1972.
He was introduced to the love of his life, Cheryl, through their pastors in January 1979 and they married Aug. 18, 1979. He was a dairy farmer in Lena for several years until moving to Gillett in 1984 to run a bakery. They moved to Green Bay in 1986, where he worked as a baker until retirement.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed time with his family, but especially loved getting a laugh out of people with his quirky and peculiar ways. He claimed God gave him the gift of not being embarrassed to make an idiot of himself and could remember dates, events and had a passion for recycling. He will be remembered for the stories and memories that will make them laugh.
An active, faithful member of Community Bible Church in Lena, he served on the board for many years and his favorite thing was to attend Church to participate in "fellowship with saints of like precious faith." He lent a helping hand to anyone in need, especially if he had an opportunity to share the Gospel with them.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cheryl; six children, Carl (Laura), Michael, Cindy (Nick) Enderby, Rachal (Justin) Fossum, Jennifer (Everett) Olson and Angie; eight grandchildren with one on the way; six siblings, Roger (Rose), Carol (Paul) Nielson, Albert (Shirley), Lois Aukofer, William (Kathy) and Marianne (Robert) Gauthier and many cousins; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald; a sister, Sharon Hershey and two brothers-in-law, William Aukofer and Don Hershey.
