Peshtigo May Resume School Prior to Sept. 1
Issue Date: May 6, 2020
At its annual reorganizational meeting on Wednesday, May 13, Peshtigo School Board will elect a board president, vice president, treasurer, secretary/clerk and deputy secretary/clerk.
Current officers are Rebecca DeMarce, chair; Steve Coble, vice chair; Kelly Jones, clerk; Mariel Carter, deputy clerk; and Gary Larsen, treasurer. Committee chairs are Finance, Personnel and Negotiations: Larsen; Buildings and Grounds: Joshua Seefeldt; and Policies: Jones.
Students and staff may be asked to partly make up for lost time during the spring 2020 term by starting classes early this fall.
As part of the May 13 meeting the board will hold a public hearing on a proposed resolution asking the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for a waiver that would allow the 2020-2021 school year to start prior to Sept. 1, "due to closure of school due to forces of nature known as the COVID-19 Pandemic."
That resolution is on the agenda for board approval immediately after the public hearing. There is no proposed start date listed. The next agenda item, however, is action on a revised school calendar for the 2020-2021 school year.
Employee health insurance benefits are on the agenda for action, as are committee reports and approval of any building and grounds maintenance projects and capital equipment purchases exceeding $10,000.
The board is also expected to approve appointment of WASB and CESA 8 delegates; committee memberships as assigned by the board chair; hirings, resignations and retirements, Start College Now applications, and to accept any gifts, grants or bequests with value of $250 or more. They also will approve payment of bills as recommended by the Finance Committee at its 5:30 p.m. meeting .
After regular business is concluded the board will convene in closed session to revise current administrative contracts and screen candidates for the Peshtigo Elementary School Principal position left vacant by last month's resignation of Kelly Collins. There is provision for the board to act on either of the closed meeting subjects after returning to open session before adjournment.
