THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Crivitz Lumber, Rebuilt On The Ashes, Is Open Again
Issue Date: May 13, 2020
During the wickedly frigid night time hours of Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, Crivitz Lumber Company's historic old main building at 611 Main Avenue in Crivitz was completely destroyed in a fifth box alarm level blaze. Neighbors were evacuated, and the site later was cleared and leveled. Despite their loss, the family decided to rebuild, to bring a new building to life on the ashes of the old one.
That reconstruction is now complete. The landmark company in downtown Crivitz re-opened for business on Monday, April 27 continuing a 100-year family tradition of serving building needs of the greater Crivitz area.
Crivitz Lumber Company is an anchor in the community, having operated on its current site since 1920, when it was established by the original George Gocht. Current store managers are among his descendants - George Gocht IV and his brother-in-law Corey Siebert and wife Jessica. They pledge that the fifth generation of this family owned business will continue its endeavor to provide quality products and services to its community.
"Crivitz Lumber has a professional staff that shares the small town values prevalent in its community and they have long realized that their customers are the reason they have been in business over the past 100 years," Gocht said.
Siebert said Crivitz Lumber had a long road to recovery as they took on the daunting task of rebuilding the Company, and it is with great pride and thankfulness that they are now in position to begin serving their great customers in their new facility. A grand opening is planned, but the date remains to be set. In the meantime, they invite everyone to stop in and see the beautiful and functional new Crivitz Lumber at 611 Main Avenue in Crivitz, Wisconsin where they have begun what will hopefully be their next 100 years servicing their valued customers.
Store hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. In the store and in the supply sheds outside they have lumber and other building and maintenance supplies for projects of all sizes, everything from minor renovation and repairs to entire construction projects. They now also offer home design and blueprint drawing and have rental equipment available to assist with site preparation and construction work.
