Carlene Ann (Fernstrum) Higley, 80, of Franklin, Tn., passed away Monday, May 18, 2020.
Born in 1939 in Menominee, Mi., she graduated from Menominee High School and earned a Bachelors Degree in English from Alma College in Alma, Mi. She married Ferris Saxton of Midland, Mi. in 1960 and he preceded her in death in 2006. They had five children.
She had a servants heart and began her career after college as a school teacher. Being artistic and an ultimate fashionista, she later owned a clothing boutique of her own in Menominee. She met her current husband, Charles Higley in 2014 and they married in November 2015 at Franklin First Presbyterian Church where they were both members. She served as a Stephen Minister at the Church, sang in the Choir and they both volunteered during Wednesday night services and also served at Room in the Inn.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Higley; five children, Shelly (Don) Workman and Melinda (Ward) Brown, both of Franklin, Tn., Jeffrey (Debi) Saxton of Tampa, Fla., Eric (Katy) Saxton of Green Bay and Lisa (Jim) Cross of Brookfield and a step-daughter, Julia (Ryan) Richmond of Murfreesboro, Tn. and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Carl and Wilma Fernstrum, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ferris Saxton and a brother, Peter (Mary) Fernstrum.
Visitation will be held at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin, Tn. on Sunday, June 7 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a private family service.
