Richard L. KempkaIssue Date: June 3, 2020
Richard L. Kempka, 76, of Peshtigo, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020.
Born June 18, 1943 in Lena, son of the late William and Laura (Borkowski) Kempka, he married the former Susan Molter.
Richard was a devoted family man who encompassed life through his love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter of all games, fisherman of all species, and man of many talents. He anxiously anticipated the annual trips to Wyoming for mule deer, in which he harvested a Boone and Crockett scored buck in 1994, and Canada to catch fish of a lifetime with family and special friend Jo McGee.
Locally known as "White Boots", ice fishing was definitely his most treasured activity. He viewed fishing not only as a hobby, but almost as a second job. Rich was a great role model for his kids and grandchildren, as he taught them the essentials of everything outdoors. He dedicated just as much time on the water as what his weekly paycheck read.
Rich worked as welder/repairman at Ansul in Marinette, WI for 43 years, where he was known for his hard work, dedication to his craft and all of the B.S. stories he brought through the doors. Unlike the vast majority, Richard considered each work day as a gift rather than a mandatory chore. While his top priority was providing for his family, punching out on Friday's and heading to the cabin in Athelstane to relax was also a necessity.
From nicknaming every kid and grandchild, to bloody marys, corn on the cob and ice cold Milwaukee's Best Lights, Rich had certain things that held a special place in his heart. Rich and Sue always entertained family and friends with a good ol' classic fish fry (of course his favorite meal). Rich lived a full and prosperous life, partaking in many different activities, but at the end of the day he loved coming home to his wonderful wife, Sue.
Rich and Sue were happily married for 56 years, fortunate enough to renew their vows on their 50th wedding anniversary. They truly represent the meaning of a "life full of love". This love they expressed for each other is unmatched and the bond they created and withheld can never be broken.
Richard is survived by, his wife Susan; 4 sons, Richard (Sandy), Scott (Julia), Todd (Gwen) and Timothy (Terri); 2 daughters, Marie Lemire and Kelly Kotecki; grandchildren, Nicole, Alexandra, William, Wyatt, Justin, Mindy, Alec, Abby, Ashley, Brennan, Levi, Kiana, and Kylie; 12 great-grandchildren and a sister, Patricia (John) Jacob.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by, 2 brothers, Jerry and Ronny Kempka. Also preceded by his 2 animal companions, Panther and Gizzy.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, June 3, at Berth & Rosenthal Funeral Home from noon until time of the Memorial Service at 2:00 pm with Father John Harper officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Peshtigo. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Richard's name.
A special thank you goes out to Rennes Health and Rehab Center West and Unity Hospice for the care provided.
