Legion Auxiliary Unit 66 Discuss Chili Fest Sept. 26

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 66 met June 20 at the Silver Cliff Town Hall. American Legion Post/Unit 66 members began the meeting together to discuss plans for the Sept. 26 Chili Fest. The Dual Sport Riders will give the total number of riders expected to participate in the Chili Fest in late July.
Unit 66 President Dee Farley presented the National Good Deed Award to Silver Cliff Firefighter Junior Member Dylan DeBauche. He received the award for his community service as an active four year member of the Silver Cliff Fire Department.
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 66 has reached 101% membership. Each member received a 100% Blue Ribbon. They held an initiation ceremony for new members Bonnie Prah, Pam Mielke, Amy Vann and Jenny Rodgers. Welcome to new members Rhonda Cassity, Vicki Farrell, and Barb Tobison.
Each year Unit 66 sponsors the Poppy Poster Contest for area students. Unit 66 has two Department State Winners, Courtney Peterson and Anna James, who will be in the National Competition in August.
Athelstane/Silver Cliff Unit 66 winners were Class III - Frank Hoffeller; Class IV - Morgan Bales; Class V - Elizabeth Schaal; Class VI - Courtney Peterson; Class VII - Anna James.
Ninth District winners were Class I - Carson Nelson (Shiocton Unit 512); Class II - Logan Peterson (Shiocton Unit 512); Class III - Jenna Nicholson (Amberg Unit 428); Class IV - Christina Lynch (Amberg Unit 428); Class V - Kailee Sievert (Amberg Unit 428); Class VI - Courtney Peterson (Athelstane/Silver Cliff Unit 66); and Class VII - Anna James (Athelstane/Silver Cliff Unit 66).
In other business, it was voted to purchase neck pillows for patients at the Iron Mountain Facility. No visitors are allowed at this time. Ann Wender will take care of the delivery details.
The 2020 Budget changes will be addressed later in the year. At the August meeting they will discuss shared costs for the Christmas Party.
Continue to collect hotel toiletries and other items for the homeless. This is an ongoing collection and any community member can collect as well. Contact Dee Farley or Shorty Zindars for details. The next scheduled meeting will be at 10 AM on Saturday, Aug. 1 at the Silver Cliff Picnic Area.
