Marilyn Joy (Matravers) Krueger, 87, of Oconto, passed away Sunday evening, April 26, 2020 at home after a short illness, just shy of her 88th birthday, surrounded by her daughters, .
Born in Oconto, the first child of Edith Erickson Matravers and Herbert Rae Matravers, she was raised with her sisters there, Marjorie and Judy. She graduated from Oconto High School as Valedictorian and then earned an RDH in 1952 at the University of Minnesota School of Dental Hygiene in Minneapolis. After moving to Madison for her first job in Hygiene, she reconnected with her Oconto High School classmate, Richard (Dick) James Krueger, who was attending UW-Madison Law School and they married on Jan. 30, 1954 at First Presbyterian Church of Oconto. They later returned to Oconto where they raised their family.
A devoted follower of Christ, her dedication to her Church, home and family was and is still evident every day. Her appreciation for the nature of the Oconto River and love of her Couillardville and Peshtigo heritage, provided many opportunities for family connections and adventure through the years.
She is survived by three children, Stephen Richard of Green Bay and Joan Elizabeth and Julie Louise, both of Gilbert, Az.; a sister, Judith Rae of Huntley, Ill. and many cousins; nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard and a sister, Marjorie.
A private Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Oconto on Tuesday, July 7 at 1 p.m. The service will also be livestreamed on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/FirstPresbyOconto/. Contributions can be made in her memory to First Presbyterian Church of Oconto, Oconto Hospital Foundation or Oconto County Area Humane Society.
