Sandra "Sandy" A. Saunier, 81, of Marinette, passed away Friday, July 24, 2020 at Rennes Health Care Center-West.
Born Sept. 17, 1938 in Marinette, to the late Arthur and May (Jacobi) Olson, she graduated from Marinette High School in 1956. She married Robert Saunier on Dec. 12, 1970 in Menominee, Mi. and he preceded her in death on July 3, 2007. Together they owned and operated the Marine House Bar and Grill for many years.
She served on the Marinette City Council for at least 25 years, representing the 1st Ward and spearheaded improvements to the Menekaunee Heritage Park, formerly Whiskey Park, Menekaunee Harbor/Marina, Red Arrow Park including the children's' playground, enclosed pavilion and the Commercial Fishermen's Memorial and helped with the Menekaunee Old Timers Picnic for over 10 years.
With help from Congressman Mark Greene, she helped locate the fishing vessel the Linda E at the bottom of Lake Michigan where her nephew, Warren Olson Jr. was part of the crew. A member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the Women of the Marinette Moose Lodge, she helped organize the Men's Moose. She enjoyed Bingo, golfing, the Packers and bowling, both miniature and big lanes, but most important to her was her family and friends.
Survivors include a son, Brian Tribbey of Marinette; two grandsons; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Ervin (Karleen) Olson; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law and many nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Scott Saunier and 13 brothers and sisters.
No visitation or formal service will be held at this time due to COVID-19 restrictions. A Memorial Gathering will be held at a later date. Thielen Funeral Home of Marinette is assisting the family.
