Issue Date: July 29, 2020
Robert Francis Newell, 83, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020.
Born Jan. 29, 1937 in Racine, he was raised in DePere and attended UW-Madison until taking a break to serve in the United States Army. He later returned to UW-Madison and earned a degree in Psychology. He married Stevie and they lived in Waukesha for 26 years where he was a Vice President at Marsh and McClellan Insurance Brokerage in Milwaukee. In retirement, he fulfilled his dream of living in a quiet, wooded area on Lake Michigan in Cedar River, Mi.
He had a strong work ethic and values that were admired by most, believed life was meant to be lived through the loving of your family, by enjoying your passions in life and making strong friendships along the way. He loved to have fun, whether playing golf, telling a story or hearing one that made him laugh. His smile, warm handshake and laugh made people want to become his friend and was always there to help with advice or lend a hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Marion Newell, his wife, Stephanie Newell and a niece, Julie Newell Cogburn.
He is survived by two children, Mary (Marc) Becker and Chris (Sarah) Newell; four grandchildren; three siblings, Dennis (Marge), Ted and Pam. He was blessed with a second family in Michigan, Ronda and Jeff Karvinen, Jess and Ashley, who were always there for him and helped him in many ways.
The family will be holding a private Memorial Service. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home of Menominee is assisting the family. Online condolences can be made at www.andersondiehm.com
