Oconto Takes Sectional Win Over Freedom
The Oconto Blue Devils stayed alive in the WIAA post season volleyball tournament with a five set win over the Freedom Irish last week.
The win was tough for the Oconto girls who dropped the first match 25-22 before coming back in the second with a 25-19 win.
"During that first set we had a lot of nerves," said Oconto Head Coach Nancee Bucheger. "But they believe in themselves. We were a little tight early in regards to out serve reception. The second set we related a bit and you could see that cause we were passing much better. Then that third set Lianna Baxter went on that serving streak that locked that win up for us."
Oconto continued to take control over the third frame with a a decisive 25-9 win but Freedom fired back in the fourth with a 25-19 victory. Thanks to a Lianna Baxter block in the fifth set the Blue Devils took the win 16-14.
"In that fifth set we came from behind," said Bucheger. "Shows how these girls never give up, that game could have went either way."
