Carriveau and Company Move Onto State Meet

The tiny swim team from Marinette/Peshtigo left it all in the pool on Saturday while swimming in the Bay Conference sub sectional in Clintonville. The other half of the Division 2 Sectional swam in Plymouth. Competing in the first of two Sectionals the Marines had to wait to see what their new PR's earned them, especially after their first place finish in the Girls 400 Free Relay with a time of 4:01.79. Joining former State Qualifiers, Maija Carriveau and Allie Mayhew are Mary Mayhew and Riley Sabel in the 400 Yard Free Relay. While, Carriveau returns to state in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 24.53 seconds. She will also swim in the 100 Yard Freestyle this year at state after taking first in her sub sectional with a time of 54.89 seconds. Senior Allie Mayhew is returning to state in the 100 Backstroke after finishing with a time of 1:00.6 in Clintonville.
The Marines finished second overall in their sub sectional in Clintonville with a score of 313, just behind the Seymour Thunder who scored a total of 337 points. New London took third with a score of 398. The subsectional finish garnered Marinette a fifth place overall in the Division 2 sectional.
Marinette started the meet with a fourth place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 2:00.01.
In the 100 Backstroke, Chloe Sanders took two seconds (1:20.26) off her previous best time and finished 14th while Riley Sabel trimmed a second (1:12.55) off her top time to finish seventh. Sabel shaved a second (1:07.31) off her best 100 Freestyle time, earning 18th place.
Mary Mayhew and Riley Sanders both swam in the 50 Yard Freestyle with Mary Mayhew (27.96) taking 15th place finish, while Sanders pushed herself to a time of (33.13) finishing 35th overall. Mary Mayhew also swam in the 100 Yard Butterfly finishing with a time of 1:11.54 placing ninth.
Back in the 100 Yard Freestyle, Gracie Hansen finished in 20th with a time of 1:13.01. In the 500 Yard Freestyle, Marine Ella Olive fought to a ninth place finish with her swim timing out to 6:11.97, while her Olive's turn in the 100 Yard Breaststroke earned her a 7th place finish (1:20.34). In the same event (100 Breaststroke) Izzy Rowell finished 11th (1:25.11) and Gracie Hanson earned a 19th place finish (1:31.77).
After the meet, Head Coach Calista Thill had this to say about her team. has got nothing on these girls. I preached all season about how they are small but mighty. That showed in today's sectional meet. We took second in our sub sectional the whole team swam outstanding, PRs all around for everyone!! We had 2 individual state qualifiers and a relay! Congratulations girls, I'm so proud of you!! Carriveau will be advancing to state in both of her individuals the 50 Free and 100 Free. Mayhew will be advancing in the 100 Backstroke. The State Finals for the Girls Swim Teams will be held on Friday at 6pm in Waukesha at the Waukesha South Natatorium. Tickets limited, and can be purchased through each school's Athletic Director.
