Richard Downs Wright, 82, passed away Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020.
Born March 16, 1937 in Kokomo, Ind., he was a proud Hoosier as well as a Bobby Knight fan and graduated from Indiana University. In 1962 he received an offer to join the Department of Sociology from Northern Michigan University (NMU) where he spent his career as a Professor. He later became head of the department of Sociology and Social Work. He met the love of his life at NMU, Dolores, who became his wife in April of 1965. In 1971, they adopted a young baby girl from Trinity, Fla., who they named Victoria Marie Wright.
Among being a proud father and grandfather, he enjoyed hunting, spending time in Daggett, Mi., watching Hoosier Basketball and was a devoted Detroit Lions fan, but especially loved the Holiday season and time with family, playing music and an occasional game of trivia, which he always won. He spent many happy years with the family Springer Spaniels and loved his wife very much. He was thought of as a superhero by his daughter and grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughter, Victoria (Vicki) Wright; two grandchildren; a brother, Larry Wright of Inver Grove Heights, Mn.; nephews and many loved students and friends.
Among his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores and a beloved aunt and uncle.
Due to the current pandemic, no services will be held at this time. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home of Stephenson is assisting the family with arrangements.
